Gas chromatography is a type of chromatography used to separate and identify chemicals in the gas state. The mobile phase is a carrier gas and the stationary phase is a microscopic layer of an inert solid support. The stationary phase lines the inside of a very long, thin tube known as a capillary column. Different chemicals pass at different rates depending on various chemical and physical properties.
