What is Open Access to Science and Scholarship?
Peter Suber will describe the worldwide movement for open access to peer-reviewed research literature. After defining open access, he'll discuss its scope, economic basis, legal basis, and benefits for authors as well as readers. He'll describe the two major vehicles for delivering it (repositories and journals), offer some suggestions for scholars on providing open access to their own work, and discuss some recent international progress, including a landmark bill to require open access to publicly-funded research in the United States.
