What You Need To Know To Submit A Proposal

Submission Process

Pre-proposal   Preparation   Review   Submission

Choose a Funder.

Submit intent to Apply Form.

Meet a member of CFR staff.

File IRB or IACUC if necessary.

Arrange letters of recommendation.

Prepare your budget.

Write narrative, letter or other required materials

Ask CFR for other required documents.

Bring all materials to CFR staff member for review.

Resolve any issues that emerge.

Package proposal doe submission.

Work with CFR staff to submit.

Have routing form signed.

If using grants gov submit 3 days early.

6-4 weeks   4-2 weeks   1 week prior   last week

Grant Writing - Recommended Timeline

  • Come up with an idea. Look through:
  • Contact CFR-- we'll let Dean's Office know
  • Write draft
  • If your research involves animals or human subjects, visit Bowdoin's Research Oversight Committee website
  • Circulate drafts
  • One week before the deadline
    • Check Academic Dean’s calendar
    • Get Dean's OK on budget
    • Collect letters of support
    • Fine tune your proposal
  • Submit and send a copy to CFR. Our office will distribute it to the Dean's office
