The mission of the Council on Undergraduate Research is to support and promote high-quality undergraduate student-faculty collaborative research and scholarship.
Project Kaleidoscope is one of the leading advocates in this country for building and sustaining strong undergraduate programs in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Project Kaleidoscope (PKAL) focuses on building learning environments that attract and sustain undergraduate students to the study of STEM fields and motivate them to consider careers in related fields. PKAL works to equip teams of faculty and administrators for leadership in reform at the local level, so that students and science are better served, as well as to encourage broad understanding of how strong undergraduate STEM programs serve the national interest. PKAL programs and publications spotlight successful efforts on campuses across the country in addressing three current challenges facing higher education leaders, recognizing that these challenges are also opportunities to shape the future.
Chautauqua Short Courses are an annual series of forums in which scholars at the frontiers of various sciences meet intensively for several days with undergraduate college teachers of science. The series is held at colleges and universities throughout the United States as well as at selected special sites. These forums provide an opportunity for invited scholars to communicate new knowledge, concepts, and techniques directly to college teachers in ways which are immediately beneficial to their teaching. The primary aim is to enable undergraduate teachers in the sciences to keep their teaching current with respect to both content and pedagogy. From year to year, there is an attempt to rotate courses among different regions of the country.
