The Resource Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity provides support, resources, safe space and education for Bowdoin College students identifying as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, or questioning (LGBTIQ) as well as allies. The Center director serves openly LGBTIQ students, as well as those in all stages of the coming out process, and provides education and outreach about LGBTIQ issues to the larger Bowdoin community. Student organizations such as the Bowdoin Queer Straight Alliance (BQSA) and Q, a queer literary magazine, are advised by the director of the Center. Additional offerings include OUTweek, GAYpril, OUT Peers and OUT Allies, a weekly Thursday evening dinner series for LGBTIQ students, and a monthly dinner discussion for men. The Center also maintains a resource library that includes materials from Gay and Lesbian Studies courses, classic and contemporary queer fiction and non-fiction, DVDs, CDs and current LGBTIQ-themed periodicals.
