Melissa earned her Yoga Teacher Certification through Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in 2004. She has since completed Ame Wren's Vinyasa Teacher Mentorship Program at Back Bay Yoga in Boston. She is certified to teach Trauma-Sensitive Yoga through the Trauma Center at Justice Resource Institute in Boston, MA and Yoga for At-Risk Youth through the Portland, OR-based nonprofit Street Yoga. She has also received foundational teacher training in Yin Yoga with Josh Summers. Most recently, Melissa participated in a teaching practicum in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) through the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. She also holds an MFA in creative writing from The MFA Program for Writers at Warren Wilson College.
Melissa enjoys teaching all levels of yoga to people of all ages and abilities. Her yoga classes offer a flowing, structured, breath- and alignment-focused asana practice drawing from training in a variety of disciplines including Ashtanga, Anusara, Baptiste, Kripalu, and Vinyasa. As both student and teacher, she is motivated by the recognition that though mindfulness practice we are given the chance to cultivate freedom and peace within ourselves and in relationship to others
