Founded in 1805, the Peucinian Society is one of the nation's foremost literary societies and the oldest student organization at Bowdoin College, hosting fortnightly disputations concerning statesmanship, culture, and political thought.
The Peucinian Society at Bowdoin College kindles intellectual fire through the hosting of political and social disputations that encourage articulation and exploration of the Authorities that elucidate Right, the Goals that unify Culture, and the Sources that inspire Virtue. The Society maintains an environment that nourishes utmost respect, enables lasting friendships and, above all, celebrates free inquiry.
Northern Bites is Bowdoin College’s robot team. They compete in the Standard Platform League of RoboCup (formerly the Four Legged League) where teams consisting of four Aldebaran Nao robots each play on a field of 6 m x 4 m. The robots operate fully autonomously; there is no external control by humans or computers.
Northern Bites are the former World Champions on the Sony Aibo platform, and in 2008 placed third on the Aibos and in the top eight in the new Nao competition in China.
BCN is the student-run, closet circuit television station on campus. 2008-2009 is our ninth season airing on the on the Bowdoin campus. BCN is an open organization that welcomes all students regardless of interest or degree of talent. We are always looking for new members interested in being on-camera, working behind the scenes, and editing footage. We also have many opportunities in advertising, web design, and production that are open to students wanting to work on an exciting project while using their non-technical strengths.
The Bowdoin College Finance Society’s paramount goal is to cultivate and promote an informed financial dialogue among students and an active curiosity about financial markets. The society aims to provide members with the opportunity and resources to learn through speakers, events and workshops. Polar Bear Capital Management, a component of the BCFS, offers members an outlet for employing what they have learned and forum in which to debate their investment ideas.
The Bowdoin College Democrats are active on campus and in the community in raising awareness about issues, in encouraging political participation, and in raising the level of discourse. We host speakers, organize get out the vote drives, and provide opportunities for students to become active in politics.
The objective of the Asian Students Association is to establish a relationship among students interested in Asian cultures and to bring multicultural awareness of these cultures to Bowdoin and the greater Brunswick communities. Biweekly meetings give students the opportunity to participate in East- and Southeast- Asian cultural activities. Campus wide events are to promote multicultural awareness and to further diversity recruiting.
