Power to all campus buildings is now restored with the exception of the Schiller Coastal Studies Center, Schwartz Outdoor Leadership Center, and Whittier Field Grandstand. Central Maine Power Company is unable to provide at this time an estimate of when work at those three sites will be completed.

Power Outage Update (10:15 a.m. - Wednesday, November 1)

  • Central Maine Power Company (CMP) has alerted the College that power is expected to be restored to the following campus buildings by mid-afternoon: Adams Hall, Banister Hall/Chapel, Buck Fitness Center, Cleaveland Hall, Druckenmiller Hall, Dudley Coe, Hatch Science Library, Kanbar Hall, Maine Hall, Massachusetts Hall, Memorial Hall, Morrell Gymnasium, Pickard Theater, Sargent Gymnasium, Searles Hall, Sills Hall, Smith Union, Studzinski Hall, and Winthrop Hall.
  • CMP crews are working to restore power to Schiller Coastal Studies Center, Schwartz Outdoor Leadership Center, and Whittier Field Grandstand but are unable to provide an estimate for when this work will be completed.

  • Power has been restored to all campus buildings/facilities EXCEPT the following 22 buildings/facilities: Adams Hall, Banister Hall/Chapel, Buck Fitness Center, Cleaveland Hall, Druckenmiller Hall, Dudley Coe, Hatch Science Library, Kanbar Hall, Maine Hall, Massachusetts Hall, Memorial Hall, Morrell Gymnasium, Pickard Theater, Sargent Gymnasium, Schiller Coastal Studies Center, Searles Hall, Schwartz Outdoor Leadership Center, Sills Hall, Smith Union, Studzinski Hall, Whittier Field Grandstand, and Winthrop Hall.
  • Central Maine Power Company crews are working to restore power to these buildings but are unable to provide an estimate for when this work will be completed.
  • With the exception of Memoral Hall (which is closed due to a generator malfunction), all of the above buildings will be open during the day. All but Winthrop and Maine halls will be closed at 5:00 p.m. if power is not restored by then.
  • Classes are proceeding at the discretion of faculty members.
  • It is a regular work day for all employees.
  • Both the Thorne Hall and the Moulton Union dining facilities are OPEN for regular dining hours today.

  • Power has been restored to all campus buildings/facilities EXCEPT the following 22 buildings/facilities: Adams Hall, Banister Hall/Chapel, Buck Fitness Center, Cleaveland Hall, Druckenmiller Hall, Dudley Coe, Hatch Science Library, Kanbar Hall, Maine Hall, Massachusetts Hall, Memorial Hall, Morrell Gymnasium, Pickard Theater, Sargent Gymnasium, Schiller Coastal Studies Center, Searles Hall, Schwartz Outdoor Leadership Center, Sills Hall, Smith Union, Studzinski Hall, Whittier Field Grandstand, and Winthrop Hall.
  • Power to these buildings/facilities is now expected to be restored tomorrow (Wednesday, November 1).
  • With the exception of Maine Hall and Winthrop Hall, all of the above buildings/facilities will close at 5:00 p.m. today.
  • Both the Thorne Hall and the Moulton Union dining facilities will be OPEN for regular dinner hours today.
  • Moulton Union Express is closed today.
  • The College anticipates a regular work day for all employees on Wednesday, November 1. Updates will be provided if that changes.
  • The Museum of Art event, “Halloween and the Ivory Mirror” scheduled for 4:00 p.m. today has been cancelled due to the power outage.
  • Tonight's 7:00 p.m. lecture by Steven Hayward ("How Liberals are Failing Liberalism") will go forward as planned in Main Lounge, Moulton Union.

Power Outage Update (12:00 p.m. - Tuesday, October 31)

  • Power has been restored to the following campus locations: 216 Maine Street, 24 College, 30 College, 32 College, Ashby House, Boody-Johnson House, Brunswick Apartments (P-X only), Burnett House, Children’s Center, Cleaveland Street buildings, Edward Pols House, Federal Street buildings, Gustafson House, Ham House, Helmreich House, Howell House, MacMillan House, Quinby House, Reed House, Riley House, Russwurm House, Stowe House, and Stowe Inn
  • While the power company cannot yet say when electricity will be restored to the entire campus, additional campus facilities are expected to regain power today. Bowdoin Safety and Security will provide additional updates throughout the day.
  • The Children’s Center will be opening at 12:30 p.m. today.
  • The 4:00 p.m. Bowdoin College Museum of Art event, “Halloween and the Ivory Mirror,” has been cancelled due to the power outage.

Power Outage Update (11:30 a.m. - Tuesday, October 31)

  • Due to the current power outage on campus, The Bowdoin College Museum of Art has cancelled its event, "Halloween and the Ivory Mirror" that had been scheduled for 4:00 p.m. today.
  • Power has been restored to the Bowdoin Children's Center, which will open today at 12:30 p.m.

Power Outage Update (6:00 a.m. - Tuesday, October 31)

Due to continued widespread power outages on campus, only essential personnel and library staff should report as scheduled. Library and Dining are open. Faculty may teach at their discretion. Academic buildings will have limited power and no network access. The Children’s Center remains closed with no power. Employees and Supervisors who are able should access Workday to enter or approve time through Sunday, October 29.

Power Outage Update (5:00 p.m. Monday, October 30)

  • Central Maine Power Company reports that power is not expected to be restored on campus or in Brunswick until Tuesday, October 31. 
  • Classes will be held at the discretion of the course instructor. Please plan to show up as scheduled.
  • Under no circumstances should candles be used in ANY college building (or off-campus residence).
  • With the exception of Thorne and campus residence halls, ALL campus buildings will be closed after 5:00 p.m. Monday.
  • The Thorne Dining Hall seating area and Daggett Lounge will be open all night (the Thorne servery will close at 8:00 p.m.)
  • Power up your telephones and other devices in Thorne Hall.
  • With the exception of emergency lighting, the campus will be completely dark.
  • Safety and Security staff will be making rounds throughout the night.
  • In the event of an emergency, call Bowdoin Security (207-725-3314).
  • Two campus shuttles will operate from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m

Dining Update

  • Thorne Hall: Dinner Monday until 8:00 p.m. Servery closes at 8:15 p.m. Open for breakfast Tuesday at 7:15 a.m. 
  • Moulton Union: Closed for dinner Monday. Cold continental breakfast available Tuesday. Express lunch open Tuesday. Dinner open Tuesday if power is back on in time for food preparation.
  • Smith Union: Closed Monday. If power is restored, SU will open by 10:00 a.m. Tuesday.
