. . .An absurdist musical about labor struggles in the garment industry.
Nov. 7, 8, and 9 at 8:00-10:30 pm.
Originally adapted from Richard Bissell's novel Seven and A Half Cents, The Pajama Game tells the story of workers at the Sleep Tite Pajama Factory and their fight for a 7 1/2 cent raise, with a tune-full score by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross that includes Steam Heat, Hey There, and Hernando's Hideaway. This production's contemporary approach re-imagines the historic and geographic setting of the show to reflect changes in the textile industry, from early union triumphs to recent tragedies overseas.
Free admission. Advance tickets available at the Smith Union information desk starting October 17 (207-725-3375). Tickets will also be available at the door starting at 7pm.
