Location: Studzinski Recital Hall, Kanbar Auditorium
Event Type: Concert
The Bowdoin Chorus and Mozart Mentors Orchestra, directed by Anthony Antolini '63, will perform "Noel francais," a cornucopia of Christmas choral works paying a musical tribute to Maine's French cultural heritage on Saturday and Sunday, December 1 and 2, at 2 p.m. in Kanbar Auditorium, Studzinski Recital Hall. The event is free and no tickets are requied.
The repertoire will include Christmas carols, all sung in French, from Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and France, some for audience sing-along. Many are familiar to American audiences in their English translations, such as "Angels We Have Heard on High" and "O Holy Night."
The featured work on the concerts will be Marc-Antoine Charpentier's "Midnight Mass for Christmas" for orchestra, chorus and soloists. This charming Baroque work is based on popular French Christmas carols of the period.
The Chorus will also share the stage with Maine's folk group, 'Ti' Acadie, performing Acadian, Cajun and French-Canadian Christmas tunes and dances and accompanying the choir on various Christmas carols.
