The role of technology in providing access to the collections is a critical one for the museum. In May 2013, Laura Latman, BCMA registrar and collections manager, launched a new portal for the searching of BCMA images. The collection is now fully searchable through the collections page
of our website. Although only ten percent of the museum's holdings have been professionally digitized, we are working to enhance that number and recently have added over 8,500 "reference images," clearly marked as such, to the website to make it easier for patrons to navigate. The BCMA will also soon be launching "e-Museum," to enhance still further access to its collections.
In July, the BCMA inaugurated a new technology group, "ROAM" (Really Open and Accessible Museum). This group includes members of the BCMA staff, as well as technology staff from the College's Department of Information Technology. The group has three intersecting aims: first, to enhance our educational resources; second to increase access to our collections by audiences outside the museum by taking full advantage of Embark, our collection management system; and third to increase engagement with the museum through social media.
