Great Graphics: Drawings Since 1970

  • Aug 08, 2008 – Sep 21, 2008
  • Bernard and Barbro Osher Gallery

In earlier times, drawings were created primarily as studies for finished paintings or sculptures. More recently, however, drawings have come into their own as independent and inventive statements, often appreciated for their particular spontaneity of approach and touch.  This varied selection will include several of the twenty-one abstract drawings given to the Museum by noted New York collectors Sarah Ann and Werner Kramarsky, among which are Christine Hiebert’s nearly 10-foot long animated fields of dancing charcoal marks and Alison Strafella’s small sheets where the drawing implement was her typewriter. Large, colorful, and figurative works on paper by numerous other artists will also be included.
