Northward: Peary’s 1908-09 Expedition

Hoping we can't get through

When I awoke this morning the Roosevelt was under way, started about 10 o'clock, and has been hustling south ever since under both boilers. We are now at 11 P.M. in Kane Basin working through scattered floes with plenty of open water in sight, although we cannot see far as it is snowing.
George and I are hoping we can't get through. We hate to think of going home.
