Northward: Peary’s 1908-09 Expedition

Seal seen in lead

Started soon after midnight. Misty, evidently from open leads, temp. -32°.
Some 5 miles from camp just succeeded in getting 4 sledges across an opening lead. Delayed here some 2 hours waiting for rear sledge which was ferried across the lead on a cake of ice.
Seal seen in lead. Some heavy going, small old floes, high rafters, + some young ice, largely level old floes of considerable area + hard snow.
Arrived Captain's camp 11.30 Henson still in igloo. At least 15 m. This puts us beyond 86° N. Lat.
