Ptarmigan

The museum actively collects contemporary Inuit and Innu art and craft work. Recent acquisitions include this ptarmigan, carved in anorthosite by Labrador artist Gilbert Hay and a standing bear, carved in ivory by Alaskan artist Al Koonook.

Other highlights include a large collection of Inupiat caribou skin masks from Anaktuvuk Pass, Alaska, and early soapstone carvings from the eastern Canadian Arctic.

The museum has recently received a major donation of contemporary Canadian Inuit art from Robert and Judith Toll.  Read more about this donation.
