Arctic Museum director Susan Kaplan and curator Genevieve LeMoine will be conducting archaeological research at Cape Sheridan, Ellesmere Island, Nunavut this summer, with funding from the National Science Foundation. They will be examining the remains of the dwellings built by Peary's Inughuit assistants, who lived on shore there during the winters of 1905-06 and 1908-09. The have started a blog to document their preparations, and to examine the similarities and differences between mounting and expedition to the Arctic in 2011 and in 1908. Follow along at capesheridan.wordpress.com as they travel from Maine to Cape Sheridan and back!
