Class Visits
Experience Bowdoin academics firsthand! Visit an introductory course in a discipline that you have never studied, witness student-faculty discussion in a small interdisciplinary seminar, or observe how our state-of-the-art science center enhances instruction. There are dozens of classes from which to choose in disciplines ranging from Environmental Studies to Africana Studies to Classics.

To arrange to visit a class at Bowdoin:

  • Consult the list of current course offerings
  • Find a class that interests you
  • Note the day and time the course is offered
  • Contact the faculty member via email to request a visit

Faculty emails are available through Bowdoin's online directory.

Please plan to arrive at a class five minutes before it is scheduled to begin to introduce yourself to the instructor. Our faculty ask that you plan to stay for the entire class.

Overnight Visits
Staying overnight with a current student gives you the opportunity to experience everyday life at Bowdoin first-hand. Overnight visits for high school seniors are available on select Sunday-Thursday nights in the fall semester. Space is limited, and you must register at least 14 days before your intended date of visit. Request an overnight visit.

On-Campus Interviews

A personal interview is strongly encouraged, but not required. Interviews are designed as a give-and-take: the interviewer will guide the course of the conversation, but there'll be plenty of time for you to ask questions about Bowdoin not addressed in other materials.

As a reminder, an interview is not required as part of the application process to Bowdoin.

To cancel an interview, please call the Bowdoin Admissions Office at (207) 725-3231. To reschedule an interview, please use the online scheduler.

Who will interview me on campus?
An admissions staff member or a Bowdoin senior, one carefully selected and trained for this purpose.

Transfer Interviews
A small number of on-campus and Skype interviews will be offered in February. More information on our transfer applicant process can be found here.

Off-Campus Interviews
Off-campus interviews with Bowdoin alumni are available to high school seniors from September through early December each fall. If you are unable to visit campus, these interviews with a member of Bowdoin Regional Admissions Volunteer Organization (BRAVO) are a great way to connect with Bowdoin Admissions and learn more about the College. If no Bowdoin alumni are available for an in-person interview in your region, you will be asked to participate in a Skype interview. Bowdoin Admissions aims to ensure that all interested high school seniors have the opportunity to interview and thus does not give preference to those who interview on campus versus off campus or via Skype. Students who have already scheduled or completed an on-campus interview are not eligible for off-campus interviews.

To sign up for an off-campus interview, please submit our online request form, which is available beginning September 1. The deadlines to request an off-campus interview are November 1, 2018, at 5 pm EST for Early Decision I applicants and December 1, 2018, at 5 pm EST for Early Decision II and Regular Decision applicants.

Note to International Applicants:
Bowdoin accepts independent interviews from vendors, such as Initialview or Vericant, from our international applicants. These interviews will provide you with an opportunity to display your communication and reasoning abilities, as well as your enthusiasm for becoming a successful student at Bowdoin.  Following this conversation, a report and video of your interview will be sent directly to Bowdoin from the vendor.  Please note that any interview for Bowdoin is optional and not a required component of the application; in lieu of an interview, you are welcome to submit one additional letter of recommendation.

We recommend registering early for these opportunities as soon as possible to ensure that your materials arrive in our office before the application deadline.

If this option is a financial burden for you and your family, please utilize the off-campus interview request form. The deadline to request an alumni interview is December 2, 2017. You are eligible for an alumni interview only once you have submitted your application to Bowdoin. Due to the volume of requests, we cannot guarantee the availability of an alumni interview; however, following receipt of your application to Bowdoin, we will make every effort to accommodate your interview request.

Bowdoin admissions officers also visit high schools all over the country and world each year. We sometimes offer off-campus interviews during our fall travel, but most of our staff time is scheduled for high school visits, college fairs, and regional Bowdoin Events. (If you are on our mailing list, look for an email from us detailing our fall travel to your area.)

We welcome high school students and educators for scheduled, hour-long group tours of campus. When planning your group visit, please note:

  • Due to the high volume of visitors throughout the year, we may not be able to grant all requests and can only accommodate groups of fifty students or fewer.

  • Group visits do not include admissions information sessions.

  • We require advance notice of three weeks.

Request a Group Tour

While Bowdoin welcomes and encourages visits from all students, we are unable to offer guided campus tours for students in grades K-8. For students in grades 6-8, our office can provide a Bowdoin-specific scavenger hunt for the group. As an alternative, please note that the Bowdoin College Museum of Art and Peary MacMillan Arctic Museum are both open for group tours during regular hours and can be contacted to arrange your visit.

For more information, or to cancel your scheduled visit, please call us at (207) 725-3231. We request at least 24 hours notice to cancel a group visit. Information for Bus Parking

*Group tours are unavailable during the months of January, May, and December. The Admissions Office is also closed on Sundays, Memorial Day, Independence Day, and the Wednesday through Saturday of Thanksgiving. Group tours may also be unavailable during periods of heavy admissions traffic.*

Enjoy lunch on us! If you are visiting campus and are looking for lunch options, join a group of current students who are eager to welcome you. This is another opportunity to ask questions about the student experience on campus and learn about Bowdoin from the experts.

Bear Bites is offered Fridays from 12:30 to 1:30 pm in Thorne Dining Hall. Meet your hosts—members of the Student Admissions Volunteer Organization (SAVO)—in the lobby of the Admissions Office for your lunch ticket.

If you are interested in joining, please sign up here.

(Note: This opportunity is available to prospective students only. Parents are welcome to enjoy lunch in the dining hall at a discounted rate with a meal token from the front desk of Admissions.)

Scheduling note:

Students scheduling on-campus interviews do not need to register separately for tours or information sessions.

Check out the Academic Year Calendar to see when students will be on campus.
