For all Transfer Applicants: decisions will be emailed to the email address listed on your Common Application on May 6 after 4pm EST. It will take several hours to send all decisions. If you do not receive your decision by 9am on Wednesday, May 7, email admissionsBRM@bowdoin.edu from the email address listed on your Common App. For security purposes, please include which of the three prompts you chose for your Bowdoin Writing Supplement.
For all Regular Decision applicants: decisions will be emailed to the email address listed on your Common Application on March 21 after 7pm EST. It will take several hours to send all decisions. If you do not receive your decision by 9am on Saturday, March 22, email admissionsBRM@bowdoin.edu from the email address listed on your Common App. For security purposes, please include which of the three prompts you chose for your Bowdoin Writing Supplement.
For all Early Decision II applicants: decisions will be emailed to the email address listed on your Common Application on February 3 after 7pm EST. If you do not receive your decision by 9am on Tuesday, February 4, email admissionsBRM@bowdoin.edu from the email address listed on your Common App. For security purposes, please include which of the three prompts you chose for your Bowdoin Writing Supplement.
Due to the delay in processing large volumes of application materials, we will begin sending Regular Decision application acknowledgements and applicant portal invites via email on January 10th.

If you do not receive your decision by 9am on Friday, December 13th, email admissionsBRM@bowdoin.edu from the email address listed on your Common App. For security purposes, please include which of the three prompts you chose for your Bowdoin Writing Supplement.
For Early Decision I candidates: we have completed our downloads of all known Early Decision I applications. If you are an Early Decision I candidate and have not received an email from us regarding the status of your application (complete or incomplete), please contact us immediately by calling 207-725-3100. Continue to check our website, Facebook page, and Twitter feed for our decision release date and time (all decisions will be emailed).
The Bowdoin Admissions Office will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday starting Wednesday, November 27. The office will reopen on Monday, December 2. Applicants who submit applications or application materials between November 25 and December 2 will not receive confirmation until Tuesday, December 3rd.
Bowdoin’s Early Decision I applicants will soon receive an email invitation to check on the status of their application via our Admissions and Financial Aid portals. Due to our processing time, it can take 2-3 business days for materials to be listed as received in our portals. Applicants who submit their EDI application on November 15 will not receive confirmation of their application until Tuesday, November 19.

The deadline for submitting an Early Decision 1 application is still November 15, 2013. Any updates to our Application process will be made via email and the Bowdoin Admissions Facebook page.
Application confirmation update
We understand that the challenges the Common App experienced this fall have generated many questions about application materials and deadlines. We will begin acknowledging applications starting November 5th, and will continue to update applicants on the status of their application materials up to and after the deadlines. How do I know that you’ve received my application?
Beginning in early November, we will notify applicants by email that we have received an application and for what application round (ED1, ED2, or Regular Decision).
How will I know if my application is complete?
Shortly after the application deadline for the round you have chosen, you will receive an email with instructions on how to log in to Bowdoin’s applicant portal (called Polaris) to see what materials have arrived and what materials are outstanding. Polaris will be the most accurate way for you to be sure your application is complete.
Where can I find the Bowdoin Supplement?
The Bowdoin Supplement is now in two parts: the “Member Questions” and the Writing Supplement. Your application to Bowdoin will not be complete without responding to the Member Questions and completing the Writing Supplement. (To review the Writing Supplement prompt see our Apply page.)
Where can I find the Bowdoin Arts Supplement?
The Bowdoin Arts Supplement is now part of the Common Application. Check the box on our Member Questions page which asks: Do you intend to submit an arts supplement so that your special talent in one or more of the arts will be considered as part of the admissions process to Bowdoin? A link will appear in the left column which will connect you to the online Arts Supplement website called SlideRoom. Create an account or log-in with your Common Application account information to complete your submission.
How many recommendations can I submit as part of the new Common Application?
The Common Application requires two recommendations from teachers (we request that the teachers be from Junior or Senior year), and one from a guidance or school counselor. The Common Application will allow you to submit one additional letter of recommendation. The optional third teacher recommendation is not required.
Is a paper copy of the Common Application available? Can I get a blank copy of a teacher recommendation?
We no longer accept paper copies of the Common Application, nor do we have paper copies of blank teacher recommendation forms. All materials should be submitted online via the Common Application.
My essay lost its formatting or became garbled when I uploaded it...how is Bowdoin reviewing essays without formatting?
We understand that the Common Application is working to fix these issues. Please make a reasonable attempt to fix the formatting, especially if it rendered your essay unreadable. If you are unable to fix your Essay or Writing Supplement formatting by your application deadline please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
My test scores aren't showing up on my Preview PDF even though I selected them to be submitted.
Because Bowdoin is Test-Optional, we preemptively redact all testing from the PDF of your Common Application. However, when we import your application into our system, the testing that you chose to submit (if any) will appear in our database and will become part of your application. Please be sure to double check your Test Score submission selection in the member questions section.
The major that I'm interested in at Bowdoin isn't available on the Common Application list.
We understand that the list of available academic interests and majors does not correlate directly to the majors offered at Bowdoin. Please choose an academic interest from the Common App list that best represents your interests.
Can I submit an additional document (like a resume) to my application?
You can upload an additional document for us to review as part of your Writing Supplement.
