Pre-Visit Questions for In-Class Observation
The following questions should be discussed by the instructor and observer prior to the in-class observation:
- What is the instructor's approach to facilitating student learning?
- What are the instructor's learning goals for the students in this course?
- What are the instructor's learning goals for the class session to be observed?
- What instructional techniques will be used in this class session?
- What is the instructor's primary role in this class session (e.g. moderator, discussion leader, organizer, presenter)?
- What does the instructor expect the students to be doing in this class session (e.g. discussing, taking notes)?
- Is there anything in particular the observer should be watching for in the class session to be observed?
These questions were exerpted (and slightly modified) from "A Class Visit Model", by Rick Holmgren, Allegheny College.
