Independent study allows students to work one-on-one with faculty to pursue topics in greater depth. Whether it is to study the growth of sea urchins, learn more about changes in juvenile justice practices over the last hundred years or current thinking about deaf education, students work with faculty members on topics of joint interest. Independent studies range from single-semester directed reading courses, to student designed research, to year-long projects in the arts. Honors projects in major fields are typically organized around independent studies.
