Departmental Honors

Completing an honors project in the major field provides students with the opportunity to do original work with the close guidance of a faculty member.

Honors work is both demanding and rewarding and permits qualified seniors to build a bridge from coursework to advanced scholarship in their field of study through original, substantial, and sustained independent research or creative work. Departmental honors are awarded to students who have distinguished themselves in coursework in the discipline and in their honors project. The honors process differs across departments and programs in terms of qualification criteria, requirements for completion, the level of honors awarded, and the use of honors project credit to fulfill major course requirements.
