Bowdoin faculty members have access to a rich network of institutional support for research, teaching, performance and exhibitions. The Faculty Development Committee administers two endowed funds that support scholarly research leading to publication and/or presentation. A third fund supports interdisciplinary projects relating to coastal peoples, environments and organisms.
The conference travel program enables faculty members to participate regularly in professional meetings and is available for all benefits-eligible faculty. Three fellowships provide leave supplement awards, which allow faculty members to extend sabbatic leave for an additional semester.
Course development and enrichment awards help faculty design and implement courses and provide support for enhanced student activities on and off campus. There are a wide number of fellowships and grant programs supporting student research year-round.
Bowdoin has a sizeable number of lecture funds — some discipline-specific, others more broadly thematic — that help us bring leading scholars, artists and public figures to the College and the greater community.
