Bowdoin College Department of Theater and Dance invites applications for a tenure-track position in dance at the instructor/assistant professor level to begin July, 2010. We seek candidates with expertise in studio practice as well as a demonstrated interest in dance scholarship. The area of practice might range from modern to ballet. We particularly welcome applications from candidates with experience in "world dance" forms such as Afro-Caribbean, African, Asian, or Latin American. The ideal candidate will also be able to contextualize their studio practice within the larger discourse of dance history, cultural studies, or aesthetic or critical theory. Previous experience teaching in one or more of these areas is highly desirable. Responsibilities include teaching two courses each semester and participating in the fall and spring dance concerts. Successful candidates will also possess effective collaborative skills and a commitment to undergraduate education in a liberal arts setting. Qualifications: terminal degree (M.F.A. or Ph.D.) preferred; ABD considered.
