Assignment 1:
Follow one of the paths taken on
the site. Using the information provided, as well as outside knowledge,
create a diary or journal. This The persona taken can be of
a slave, a master, a mistress, or a northerner. Make sure to address
slavery issues no matter what persona is taken. Write at least on
entry in the manner that the persona would. For the persona of slave
it may be helpful to read over the WPA narratives. At the end include
a bibliography of the sources used.
Assignment 2:
Group project: Choose a person
represented in this site and conduct research on their life. Create
a script that encompasses the major points and presents them in a fun and
interesting manner. These scripts can either be filmed or acted out
in front of class.
Assignment 3:
Create a Document Based Question
(DBQ).
1. Break the students into
small groups.
2. Each group will be responsible
to make a DBQ which encompasses the entire slave experience during the
Civil War.
3. When this is done, give each group
another groups DBQ and have them take it.
4. Have each group grade the DBQ they
wrote using the criteria you use for grading.
